We The People, Reclaim the Republic: Various Citizens Groups

Call given by VARIOUS CITIZENS GROUPS

As we commemorate another Republic Day, We The People proclaim that the parade of the powerful at Rajpath does not represent us. We The People, Reclaim our Republic.

As members of the LGBT community, women, workers, sex workers, students, teachers, activists, persons with disabilities, health rights activists, Dalits, indigenous people, farmers, those affected by unconstitutional military rule, we are united not as “minorities” or “others,” but as the people. We invoke the promises of the Constitution of India in our name. Our struggle will continue until all arms of the state are unwavering in their constitutional promises towards the marginalized in our society, rather than only representing the powerful.

Organised by: Voices Against 377, AIDWA, AIPWA, AISA, All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch (AIDMAM), Anhad, Anjuman, Breakthrough, Citizen’s Collective against Sexual Assault (CCSA), CREA, Delhi Queer Pride Committee, Dhanak, duqueercollective, Haq: Centre for Child Rights, Jagori, Jamia Teacher’s Solidarity Association (JTSA), JNUSU, Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS), Must Bol, Naz Foundation (India) Trust, National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM), National Campaign for Peoples’ Right to Information (NCPRI), Nigah, Nirantar, Partners for Law in Development (PLD), Pension Parishad, People’s Union for Civil

  1. Mr. Sengupta has become Sohail Seth of this world and he writes on this blog mostly through young students now to protect his money minting business of being an artist.

    1. Pappuji,

How many worlds are there, where one can be duplicate Sohail Seth, Shivam Vij, or Sherlock Holmes? i know of only one world, and as of now, one Sohail Seth. Perhaps you know better

That said,I think you know well that kafila administators have assigned days. These are the posts that came on my day. And this one was not sent to me by a college student. Though I would happily post stuff they sent in, if I found it relevant.

      I remain, yours

      Shuddha

  2. There is a Republic Day that’s why we can claim it. Why blame others powerful or not for our own short comings which we as a society cannot overcome. How do we treat each other is in our hands and does not depend on class. Middle class and lower class is most morally corrupt in this country where one cannot marry without dowry, drink away more then it earns, molests and rape, cheat and lie, ignore their disabled kids, or make a beeline for anything free, teachers who do not want to teach but be absent, children who do not want to study and youth who dreams of money without work. This is the reality of our country why blame Rajpath?

  3. Reads like a wish list that has been compiled without much thinking. There is no mention of uniform civil code or changes in personal laws. The list includes a demand for reservations in private sector. How many of these groups/organizations follow reservation norms or have practiced affirmative action in some form for the top posts and decision making bodies. Someone should map the convergences and divergences in positions among these groups and movements on various issues from their statements, publications etc. Do all these groups give equal importance to all these demands/issues. Have they worked out any agendas to take forward the demands.
