The Power of Crowdsourcing

  1. Absolutely delightful! It was awesome to see this video especially when crowd-sourcing has been the buzzword the past few days for me! I work in the development sector and recently stumbled across some amazing crowd sourcing projects that began in one country and are being replicated in many other countries. Through text messages, emails, tweets the people of many a remote areas are contributing to the documentation and sharing of information especially in places rife with political violence (Kenya elections) and disasters (Haiti, Japan)…
One can read more on this by searching for “Ushahidi”, another impressive crowd-sourcing project.

Crowd sourcing is also changing the way funding is operating in the development sector especially during disasters. As more and more donors can contribute to and access information, opinions, insights of other donors on one single portal (in real time), it is helping to ensure that funds do not simply go the most well marketed NGO…especially in times of crisis when decisions need to be made and fast…

And Captchas will now make me smile!
