    Press Release

Life Sentence to Dr. Binayak Sen is an Unjust Act
He is Victim of ‘Operation Green Hunt’.

Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee in its statement condemned the court verdict and said that Dr. Binayak Sen is given life sentence on the allegation of sedition and conspiracy, which is an unjust act of judiciary. This verdict clearly reflects the politics of ‘Operation Green Hunt’ that is under the influence of Corporate sector. Under this, the government has violated all the rules and norms of Human Rights.

Dr. Binayak Sen has always questioned the state and made it answerable to the issues. We believe that only for this purpose he has been targeted. Therefore, he has become the victim of Operation Green Hunt, which is the illegal war waged by the state against their own people.
This verdict has come during such time when the United Nations Commission of human rights has declared the year 2011 on the name of human rights defenders by stating, “Human rights defenders acting against discrimination, often at great personal risk to both themselves and their families, are being recognized and acclaimed on this day. Human rights defenders speak out against abuse and violations including discrimination, exclusion, oppression and violence. They advocate justice and seek to protect the victims of human rights violations. They demand accountability for perpetrators and transparency in government action. In so doing, they are often putting at risk their own safety and that of their families”.
Under these circumstances, the Indian Judiciary that has given the verdict is violation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We believe that court has denied justice to Dr. Binayak Sen and in fact has put the human rights behind bars. Hence, it is the duty of every justice loving person of this world to struggle against this act and fight for the justice of Dr. Sen and free the human rights from the clutches of the unjust state.

We express our solidarity with Dr. Binayak Sen, his family and People’s Union for Civil Liberties and its activists. We are with them in the struggle for justice.

  2. To be honest, the tonelessness of the voices was kind of of-putting, even given the great emotiveness of the subject.

Something about such corrupt conspiracy between enforcement officers, prosecutors and the judiciary makes one extremely angry. I suppose it’s because they are mocking the whole system and making it all pointless. They might just as well have dispensed with the incompetent mockery they made of the trial, and just bundled the poor doctor into the back of a truck.

I recommend a presentation with more varying tones of voice. I’d also like to see who this judge is, and who these police officers and prosecutors were. I’d like to see the video of the search. I’d like to see a copy of the arrest warrant, and I’d like to hear from the doctor’s legal adviser. Are the court records available? A dramatic reconstruction of parts of the trial would be very effective, I think, in making the malfeasance and malevolence of the whole thing plainer and clearer.

    Shine a little light.
    Stand up and fight.
    Speak out for what’s right.
