In the lead up to March 8th, International Womens’ Day, I would like to share with Kafila readers, especially those in Delhi University, research done by students of Kirori Mal College on how women students perceive questions of safety and security on campus. The research is richly illustrated with graphs and figures and is especially illuminating for the way in which it reveals attitudes amongst women students about why they they do not trust an increased police presence on campus as a guarantee of their safety and security.
KAFILA - COLLECTIVE EXPLORATIONS SINCE 2006 
Gets me into nostalgia. Between 1996-99, my college years in KMC, I was the founder member of Parivartan, formed under the able guidance of JInee Lokaneeta. Needless to say, had a lifelong impact on my thought and viewpoint.

As a student of south campus, I wish to raise a few issues pertaining to the safety of students on campus. Last year, the VC called a meeting to express his solidarity with the cause of the students of the university. He promised to answer every question put forth by the students and implored to us, that he was doing his best to keep the university ‘student-friendly’. In the process of placating us and reinforcing his legitimacy, he promised the following:
1. Increase the number of girls’ hostels in south campus( Currently, there is only one girls’ hostel for PG students.)
2. Bus services for the off campus colleges that nevertheless, come under the south campus, such as Gargi, KNC and LSR.
3. No classes over a span of 3 days during the Annual Cultural Festival of the University of Delhi, Antardhwani.
Point 3 is the sole promise that has been kept.
