Vande Mataram?

jaipur-cow-759

An art installation ‘The Bovine Divine’ by artists Anish Ahluwalia and Chintan Upadhyay was taken down by the police at Jaipur Art Summit

The artists were taken to the police station and held for two hours.

[Correction: The art work was by Siddhartha Kararwal. Anish and Chintan are Sandarbh coordinators. But they were the ones talking to the cops and who were eventually taken to the police station.]

After the cow made of styrofoam was taken down, it was “worshipped and garlanded by a group of protesters”.

While the artists said they wanted to show what eating plastic does to cows, the SHO of Bajaj Nagar Police Station, Mahendra Gupta, was deeply disapproving.

“The way the cow was hanging in the air”, he reportedly frowned, “it was only sending a negative message.”

The levels to which fringe groups are allowed leeway seems to prove only that the silent majority is not only denied a voice but the artist/intellectual is taken to task for even attempting to provide a voice of concern! The fear and subservience under which the services operate must be tremendous indeed.h

The piece of art showing the hazard of eating plastic by animals and showing cow is met with intolerance! That is, anything showing ‘cow’ breeds intolerance! Even if a picture messaging the safety of cow is a danger! If this trend continues, Cow might replaced as the ‘Father of the Nation ‘ Mahatma Gandhi…!

Don’t dare to do anything with `cow’ – hold its tail longenough till it starts giving you Gomutra followed by gobar- is the message from Bihar that is yet to be digested by cowbhaktas

Thanks Iram. I have not written this, as is evident. It’s directly taken from the Indian Express. But I will also make the correction in the post.
