Indians against Indian repression in Kashmir

Be there or elsewhere:

Janahastakshep, PUCL and PUDR  are holding a dharna on August 30 at jantar mantar from 11am to 1pm in protest against the crackdown on non violent people demanding ‘azadi’.

IT is clear that only way in which Indian state restore its authority is by using coercive means. It is a form of collective punishment of the people that indefinite and unrelenting curfew has been imposed. Already reeling under economic blockade the imposition of curfew is making it worse with even hospitals not being allowed to function fully and attacks on ambulances and injured. Food is in short supply. Water and electricity disrupted. No one is allowed to move about even with curfew passes and there are restrictions placed on media. For 18 years it was told by Indian state and Indian opinion makers that if only the movement sheds weapons talks can be held. When that happened and largely non violent protests began instead of heeding the voice of the people and reaching out to them through talks the Indian state has decided to show its iron fist. Right to life and right to live in dignity stands suspended. Are we going to sit silently when such harsh measures are adopted? Do we want guns to make their reappearance as the Indian state is provoking the people to do? IF we believe that unity of people and their aspirations are our major concern should we not come out in solidarity and support for their cause which they were carrying out peacefully?

Please spread the word to gather at jantar mantar on saturday August 30 at 11 am  to protest the severe repression let loose on the people.

We intend to demand lifting of curfew. Restoration of civil liberties. Allowing non violent assembly. Talks with people at the highest level so that 61 years of denial, repression, charade of  dialogue, manipulation is discarded and substantive progress is made to democratically and peacefully resolve the intractable problem.

  1. KASHMIR UNDER THE COVER OF CERFEW, KASMIRIS SUBJECTED TO SEVERE FORM OF TORTURE AND SUBJUGATION

Finally the long awaited mask of secularism is off from the Indian face and it has openly started a reign of terror in Kashmir under the cover of Curfew which according to a prominent pro Indian Political leader is ‘Martial Law’. The lie which India propagated that because of the threat to Hurriat leaders they imposed Martial law to save the leaders from getting targeted. The rag tag Indian agencies had got some input about it.The events aftermath, the imposition of this eye wash curfew which is More than military rule has proved the real purpose behind it. India wants to subjugate Kashmiris by not allowing them to come out of houses. Kashmiri people are not allowed even emergency medical care.latest example is the beating of a pregnant woman namely Afrooza by Indian occupational forces. She was dragged out of car when she was having labor pain and was on way to a hospital to deliver a baby. She was first dragged out of the car and then severly thrashed.Troops hit her with rifle butts at her private parts and abdomen. She felt unconscious and bleed profusely. Some local people who had curfew pass who were passing by took her to the hospital where her condition and the condition of her un born baby is critical.A man was shot when he was going to buy milk along with his son at Dalgate. Both son and father were shot resulting the death of the father on the spot. The dacots (troops) barge into the houses of people and beat the old men and women, thrash children not to talk about young men. The arrogance of India can be estimated when its rag tag foreign ministry terms the statement of UN about Kashmir irresponsible. Whole world is irresponsible only India is a responsible nation with its communal and pseudo secularism.

  2. Amarnath shrine is a symbol of kashmiri culture of communal harmony. The affairs of the shrine and yatra must remain a sole responsibility of the people of Kashmir in order to continue the age old tradition of yatra in harmony. Hindu extremists like Jana Sangh, BJP, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal from Jammu should not be given any role in the management of the shrine for carrying out their communal agenda.
In terms of the Constitution of J&K (SEC. 25) the Government cannot promote activities of a particular religion or religious activity. Hence the Government should have no role in the management of the Shrine Board. However, it is the responsibility of the Government to provide all the required facilities for people attending functions of religious nature like pilgrimage etc. Hence the Government should own the responsibility for all the facilities and amenities for the yatris including travel, shelter, security, medical facilities, sanitation and last but not the least protection of environment. The role of the Shrine Board should remain sole confined to the religious ceremony, rituals at the shrine proper and finances of the shrine. The Shrine Board should not be allowed to play a negative role of spreading communal hatred, grabbing forest land and destroying environment in the name of religion.
The Jammu people especially the Hindu extremists, who are spearheading the agitation for having a total control on the economic benefits of the yatra, have no locus standi to be a part of the Amarnath Shrine Board and no such arrangement will be acceptable to the people of Kashmir who are real the guardians of the Amarnath Shrine.
    We have discovered this shrine.
We are the true guardians of this shrine.
